WHO CAN TAKE CARE OF A RELATIVE?

Patients have the flexibility to choose who provides their care. They can select a friend or a relative, but if they don’t have someone available or prefer professional assistance, they also have the option to choose an agency caregiver through our services.

The following immediate relatives can participate in the program as caregivers:

  • Adult ChildrenGrown children may be willing and able to assist with caregiving responsibilities.
  • SiblingsBrothers or sisters of the person needing care may step in, especially if they have a close bond with their loved one.
  • Other RelativesNieces, nephews, or even grandchildren (if they’re old enough) can sometimes be involved.

If a patient does not have a relative or friend available, our agency can provide a trained professional caregiver to ensure they receive the best possible care.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Get Paid to Care program in Philadelphia?

The Get Paid to Care program allows eligible family members and loved ones to receive
financial compensation for providing essential caregiving services. Qualified caregivers can earn
up to $15 per hour while caring for their loved ones. Patients enrolled in state-supported
programs can receive the care they need in the comfort of their own homes.

How does the program work?

The process is simple. Stay at Home Homecare assists Medicaid-eligible patients with eligibility
verification and enrollment. We guide families every step of the way. Once a patient qualifies
for a state-supported program and selects a caregiver, that caregiver receives training and
begins earning guaranteed weekly pay—plus benefits such as health insurance, paid holidays,
overtime, and paid time off.

Who qualifies to be a paid caregiver?

Family members such as adult children, siblings, nieces, nephews, and even grandchildren may
qualify as caregivers. Patients can also choose a trusted friend, neighbor, or request a
professional caregiver through Stay at Home Homecare if a family member isn’t available.

Who does not qualify to be a caregiver?

While many family members and close friends are eligible, there are two key exceptions:
A legally married spouse (husband or wife) of the patient is not eligible to be paid as a
caregiver. Anyone holding Power of Attorney (POA) for the patient they are caring for is also not
eligible. These restrictions are in place to ensure caregiving decisions remain unbiased and in the best interest of the patient.

What benefits do paid caregivers receive?

Caregivers enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Competitive pay (up to $15/hr.)
  • Sign-on BONUS
  • Guaranteed weekly pay
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Paid time off and holiday pay
  • Overtime (if approved)
  • Health insurance (medical, dental, and vision)
  • $10,000 in free life insurance
  • Ongoing training and access to a supportive caregiving community

How long does the hiring process take?

That depends on the caregiver, but most complete the process in just a few days. Our
experienced team streamlines the application process, assisting with paperwork and ensuring
quick approval.
